(Patna) “I have seen casteism at the grassroots level where humanity is less important than a person’s caste identity. People from the upper castes avoided contact with lower castes. My husband and I were totally against this and we invited people from all walks of life into our home.

During my tenure at a women’s organisation, we successfully built 20 toilets to maintain hygiene. I also worked to bring medical attention to pregnant women, ration card authorization to people in need, and helped in school admission of children among other things.

Aside of this, my husband, who is a social worker built a school and a community hall. This hall was built especially for those who were denied rentals at other committee halls because they were ‘untouchables’. Currently, the school and committee hall are still in use.”
